A bit about The Forest Approach

During our workshops, your child will have access to fantastic woodland locations where they will have child-led experiences.

Our activities allow your child to progress at their own pace and in their unique way through a state of deep involvement, engaging minds in the natural wonderment of the surrounding environment and participation in activities in the woodlands and at our on-site base, ‘The Hut’.

We design our workshops around the ages, stages, and needs of the individuals and groups attending.

We work in partnership with children, their parents, adults, carers, Early Years practitioners and teachers to support the participants in pursuing their interests and curiosity, enabling them to create their world and reach their potential.

We nurture an environment where individuals can be involved, develop and progress.

Our Forest School Leaders relish in good ‘old fashioned’ outdoor fun and games while introducing new skills such as fire lighting, outdoor cooking, tool use and nature crafts.

Please take a look at our workshops. We would love to meet you!

Workshops

What to expect from us

The Forest Approach have designed their workshops to encourage everyone  to feel comfortable playing outdoors and exploring the woodland environment. The woodland allows lots of opportunities to be creative in an outdoor setting and have the space to explore activities that interest them. The Forest Leader  may provide some loosely structure through planned activities, However the direction will be decided by the participants and each workshop may be slightly different. The Forest Approach will sometimes include food and drink and shared amongst the group . This will gives the children/adults the opportunity to gather together and share their experiences. At the end of each workshop, the leader will regroup and reflect on their experiences during the session, sharing with the rest of the group what they have enjoyed the most during the session.

The Hut

Sustainable environment

The have a purpose built outdoor shelter called ‘The Hut’ in an enclosed field. We have our logged fire circle close to ‘The Hut’ where an array of activities take place. These include den making, campfire cooking, guided  tool activities, clay work, stonework, nature art and crafts activities.

Educational Workshops

Preschools, Nurseries, Schools, Childminders & Homeschooling

Shared Experiences and learning in the here and now, not storing up their questions until tomorrow or next week. It is in that moment of curiosity, puzzlement, effort or interest – the ‘teachable moment’ – that the skilful adult makes a difference. By using this cycle on a moment-by-moment basis, the adult will be always alert to individual children always thinking about what it tells us about the child’s thinking and always ready to respond by using appropriate strategies at the right moment to support children’s well-being and learning
